User Accounts Data and Privacy

USTAAD Typing Academy is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that all your personal data remains under your control. Unlike many online services, USTAAD does not collect, store, or transmit any user data to external servers. All account information, progress, and settings are stored locally on your device and are only accessible through the USTAAD software itself.

Data Storage Philosophy

At USTAAD, we believe in complete data ownership and privacy. Your typing progress, test results, and personal settings are yours alone. We do not:

  • Collect any personal information
  • Track your usage patterns
  • Share data with third parties
  • Require internet connectivity for core functionality
  • Store data on cloud servers

All data remains on your device, giving you full control over your information.

What Data Is Stored Locally

Each user account in USTAAD stores the following information locally on your device:

  • Typing progress and lesson history — Your advancement through lessons and exercises
  • Test results and performance statistics — Speed, accuracy, and improvement metrics
  • Personal settings and preferences — Customizations like language preferences and interface settings
  • Certificates earned — Digital certificates for completed courses or achievements

This data is stored in secure, local files that are only accessible by the USTAAD application on your device.

Local Storage Details

Desktop Version

In the desktop application, account data is stored in local files on your device's hard drive. These files are located in the application's data directory and are encrypted for security. Only the USTAAD software can read or modify these files.

Web Version

When using the web version, all data is stored in your browser's local storage. This means:

  • Data stays on your device
  • No data is sent to web servers
  • Clearing browser cache will remove all stored data
  • Data is isolated per browser and device

Privacy Assurances

USTAAD Typing Academy provides the following privacy guarantees:

  • No data collection — We do not gather any information about your usage or personal details
  • No internet requirement — The software works completely offline
  • No account registration — Create accounts locally without providing email or personal information
  • No data sharing — Your information never leaves your device
  • No tracking — We do not use analytics, cookies, or tracking technologies

User Control Over Data

You have complete control over your data:

  • Create and delete accounts at any time
  • Access data only through USTAAD — No external access to your files
  • Backup your data by copying local storage files (desktop) or exporting browser data (web)
  • Remove all data by deleting accounts or clearing browser storage

Data Security

While USTAAD takes privacy seriously, remember that local storage security depends on your device:

  • Desktop version — Data files are stored in standard application directories with basic encryption
  • Web version — Data is protected by browser security features
  • Device security — Protect your device with passwords, encryption, and regular backups
  • Shared devices — Use separate accounts and be aware that others with device access may view data

Best Practices for Data Privacy

  • Use strong device passwords to protect access to your computer or browser
  • Regularly backup important data if you want to preserve your progress
  • Clear browser data carefully in the web version to avoid accidental data loss
  • Use unique account names to easily identify your data
  • Avoid shared devices for sensitive learning progress if privacy is a concern

Common Privacy Questions

Is my data safe from hackers? Since all data stays on your device and isn't transmitted over the internet, it's protected by your device's security measures. However, if your device is compromised, local data could be at risk.

Can USTAAD access my data? No. USTAAD software only accesses data when you run the application. We have no remote access to your device or data.

What happens if I lose my device? Account data cannot be recovered from USTAAD servers since we don't store it. Always maintain backups of important progress.

Does the web version send data anywhere? No. The web version runs entirely in your browser and stores data locally. No data is sent to any server.

Can I export my data? Currently, data export is not available, but you can backup local files (desktop) or use browser developer tools to export local storage (web).

Commitment to Privacy

USTAAD Typing Academy's privacy-first approach means you can learn typing with complete confidence that your personal information and progress remain private and secure. We believe education software should respect user privacy above all else.
